Timothy Lee
Markert
Oct 3, 1962 — Dec 19, 2021
St. Paul
Timothy Lee Markert
Born in St. Paul on October 3, 1962, died from complications of COVID on December 19, 2021. Tim was the fifth of six children born to Allan and Florence Markert. Tim was an extremely gifted athlete and played many sports growing up. He especially excelled at football and played one year at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater before pursuing other interests. Tim was a crack shot as well and earned the honor of captain of the rifle team at St. Thomas Academy. Tim had a dry sense of humor, was a lifelong Vikings fan, adored cats and ice cream (he was a Markert after all!), had an adventurous spirit and was always up for trying new things. Tim had a deep love for his family and was looking forward to being together for the upcoming holidays. Tim's life was not an easy one, he was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at age 12, Epilepsy at age 20 and had an extremely serious car accident that left him with a frontal lobe traumatic brain injury when he was in his early 40s. Through all the adversity he faced, he managed to keep his sense of humor and positive outlook on life. He enjoyed biking with his brother Allan Jr, fishing, going to Vikings games, eating good food and in the last few years he has become a jigsaw puzzle aficionado. Tim is preceded in death by both sets of Grandparents; Alyoisious Markert and Francis Markert; Howard Reed and Elanore Reed, his Father Allan Robert Markert and many wonderful Aunts and Uncles. He is survived by his beautiful Mother Florence Julia Markert, siblings Allan Reed Markert, Michael John Markert (Debi), Julie Ann Markert Austin (Steve), Paul Edward Markert (Kathy), Lynn Marie Markert (Megan), and many loving nephews and nieces. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Tim's care team at Unlimited Possibilities, his life was truly enhanced these past years because of your support and kindness towards Tim. Due to COVID, the service for Tim will be immediate family only, it is our hope to have a celebration of Tim's life at a later date, when it is safe for everyone to do so.
Please consider donating in Tim's name to Unlimited Possibilities @1504 E 122 nd Street Burnsville, MN 55337 USA; or any animal shelter – he would really like that.
Revelation 21:4
"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." And He who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new."

On December 19, 2021 my beloved brother Tim passed away. He is now in the care of the Almighty, free from pain, suffering and the many debilitating medical issues that challenged him. For that I am thankful and joyful. It was a hard thing to watch and be with Tim as he faced this challenge, powerless to help, change or cure. Yet I know he is now restored, in the loving hands of the Savior, reunited with his Dad, Uncles, Grand Parents and many others in a grand celebration.
The most impressive thing I can say about Tim is his dogged determination to face his disabilities head on. We had many bike rides over the years. We biked Beauty Lake Road one summer, up and back. Many bike rides in Eagan departing from his apartment on Federal Drive. On one adventure we actually got lost, Tim got us home. On one ride, we went with Brother Paul thru downtown St Paul, across the river to Fort Snelling, and up the BIG hill there. Paul and I were amazed at how fast he could down the Dew and a candy bar!
Perhaps my favorite ride we did was across 494 to the banks of the Minnesota River. Taking a single track we went to the Cedar Ave bridge, crossed, and took the trail along the river back thru Lillydale. We found mud. Undaunted Tim made it thru.
On all our rides, Tim never gave up. He never gave up trying to better himself and his life regardless. An amazing example for us all.
We had many meals together after our rides, everything from Chinese Buffet to Culvers to Mexican cuisine. He loved to eat, meticulously, slowly at first, then like a "Markert" He could eat, lots.
Of all our siblings, Tim was the most gifted athlete. Amazing speed, vertical jump, coordination, agility. When he was young he would tease his older sibs Mike and I and simply run away, we could never catch him. He played football, and loved volleyball. Aside from sports he was an accomplished fisherman.
In recent years Tim has lived in an apartment in Cottage Grove, under the care of Unlimited Possibilties. Euginia Patterson, Jen & Nick Farrell, and the rest of the amazing staff that kept Tim company and provided his care. Thank you and God bless you, we are in your debt.
Accolades to Sister Julie, who waded thru the maze of paperwork and government agencies to keep Tim afloat. Julie you did an amazing job for Tim, thank you.
I will miss my brother, and wish I had just one more opportunity to see him and spend some time. I will see him again some day.
