White Bear Lake

Obituary

Age 83 died September 29, 2020, res. New Richmond, Wisconsin. Preceded in death by wife Delores Ann, grandson Kevin Beltz. Survived by wife Laura; children Cheryl (Brian) Beltz, Karla (Greg) Yankovec and David (Paula) Mead; grandchildren Joe (Kathleen), Jennifer, Erin, Kimberly, Daniel, Molyy and Ryan: great-grandchild Emerson; Siblings Richard (Mary) Mead and Dennis (Joan) Mead.

Tom was born on May 10, 1937 to parents Gertie and John Mead of White Bear Lake MN. Tom and his 4 brothers (Rich, Paul, Jon and Denny) were raised in White Bear Lake and were no strangers to death defying stunts, neighborhood and family pranks, and many life learning experiences which helped shape the man he became. Tom joined the Air Force and spent two years "touring" the world at Uncle Sam's expense. When Tom returned home from the service, he spent time working with his dad remodeling homes in the White Bear Lake area . an experience he talked about well into his later years.  He married Delores at age 26.  Delores and Tom had three beautiful children, Cheryl, Karla, Dave. Sadly, Tom and the kids lost Delores way too early.  Later Tom met Laura at 3M where Tom worked as a millwright/mechanic for 20 plus years.  Tom and Laura dated for eight years (Tom had to be sure she was the right girl for him).  They were married in 1990 and made the big move from MN to WI a few years later. Tom and Laura were together for over 30 years until Tom's passing.
Tom loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing and Laura !  He enjoyed showing Laura how to garden, taking care of the yard and working in his "wood working shop".  There was very little Tom could not fix, design or build.  Tom took great pride in everything he did from raising his three children, to fixing his bike as a kid (his main means of transportation), working on cars in the back yard with his brothers as a young man, and designing the two homes Tom and Laura were fortunate enough to build together.  In his later years Tom remained close to home spending time with, Laura, close friends, family and his dogs - he loved his chocolate labs !
Tom's passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of many that only time will heal.  We love you Tom.
