Obituary

Stephen, age 65, passed away in his home on October 29, 2021. Preceded in death by parents Richard and Dorothy Blaschka. Survived by children Sheryl (Trent) Paine, Robert Blaschka and Jennifer Blaschka; grandchildren Serena Blaschka, Hailey Blaschka, Allison Paine, Nathan Paine and Noah Paine; siblings Connie (Gary) Blaschka-Mansfeldt, Jeffrey (Pam) Blaschka, Tom Blaschka and Julie (Dave) Hill; former wife Patricia McGuire.

Stephen was born and raised in St. Paul on the west side. He attended St. Mathews and Humboldt Highschool. He played hockey, baseball, and football through the school and recreationally.

One of Stephen's first jobs was at B & M furniture in St. Paul. There he delivered, repaired, and sold furniture. It was hard, physical work, but he loved it. He also worked as an assembler for Control Data.

Stephen married his former wife, Patricia in 1977. Together they had 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Their lives have been full of ups and downs, but their bond remained strong.

Stephen graduated from Brown. Although his degree was in Broadcasting, his true passion was electronics. He enjoyed figuring out how and why things worked. His passion for electronics evolved into building and fixing computers. He enjoyed his job at Electro Sensors, where he designed and set up the company's computer networking systems. His extensive knowledge of computers and networks was self-taught.

Towards the end of his life, Stephen enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with his 5 grandchildren, listening to music, keeping ahead of technology, and laying in the sun by the pool. He also enjoyed building computers for his grandkids, and fixing family and friends' computers.

Stephen's interests included reading books, listening to music, and watching sports. He also enjoyed collecting and caring for a wide variety of plants.

Stephen was a truly unique man.  He was intelligent, funny, personable, and well loved. He will be deeply missed.
