Ruth was born and raised on a dairy farm near Rush City, Minnesota. Growing up on a farm during the depression gave her a strong work ethic. She told stories about long walks to a one room school house in grade school, milking 40 cows in the morning before going to high school in town, helping the sheep have their lambs in the spring and pulling thistles in the pasture, not her favorite job. Ruth was married to her high school sweetheart, Max Myers for twenty years. They started out during World War II and Ruth went to Florida to be with Max while he was stationed there. After the war was over they returned to Minnesota had a son and lived in Pine City, then Chisago City and moved to White Bear Lake in 1958 to be closer to their jobs. Ruth married Arthur Porras in 1966 and they were happily married for 34 years until Art passed away in 2000. They both worked at Honeywell and enjoyed riding to work together when they could. Ruth and Art took several trips to Europe, the Holy Land and Hawaii which they really enjoyed. They also enjoyed going to their place at Lake Shamineau where they started out with just a small trailer and later built a house which they finished themselves. Ruth loved seeing her grandchildren and made many trips to see them in Hibbing, Minnesota and Richland, Washington. She never forgot a birthday and spent as many holidays with her family as she could. Many holidays, birthdays and dinners were also spent in White Bear Lake where Ruth would always serve at least coffee if not a meal and the guests would be asked, "Can you make a meal of this?" Ruth and Art also made many trips for Sunday dinner to her parent's home in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Ruth's later years were spent doing volunteer work, taking care of Art, participating in activities at church and caring for her house and yard. She especially enjoyed the Priscilla Circle and quilting with her friends at First Lutheran Church. She was a loving and caring person in all her roles and will be missed by her friends and family. She wanted to go home and she has gone home to be with her Lord.
