Robert
Petschl
d. Nov 11, 2024
Robert (Bob) Petschl, age 79, passed away peacefully in his home in Cathedral City, California on November 11, 2024. Bob, a long time resident of the Twin Cities, was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Duke and his dear friend Francis Skudiarski. He is survived by his two siblings, his beloved nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.
As a science teacher, Bob taught at Regina High School in Minneapolis, Humboldt High School in St. Paul, and Visitation School in Mendota Heights. During his 34 year career at Visitation School, 1976 until his retirement in 2010, he coached the first competitive tennis team, served as chair of the science department, and most importantly, encouraged the love of science in scores of young women who went on to seek careers in the field of science. He loved the Vikings. Students knew that if the Vikings lost, there would be a quiz the next day. His 1975 Corvette was his pride and joy and he cared for it until the day he moved from Minnesota to California in 2015.
Bob was a renaissance man. He had a passion for playing his guitar, writing music, dancing and supporting causes he cared about deeply, especially the gay and transgender communities. He had an affection for Latin Music and Mexican culture and a deep devotion to La Virgen de Guadalupe. His second home was Mexico whether it was Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco. His first home was Frogtown, where his roots were strong. He was always curious and met everyone with a smile. He will be deeply missed. Querido amigo Bob, vaya con Dios.
