Obituary

Bob (age 96) died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

The son of a Czechoslovakian immigrant, Bob learned at a young age the value of working hard and showing allegiance to his country. His father passed away when Bob was 12 years old, so it was up to Bob and his two big brothers to assume additional responsibilities around the home. As Bob entered into adulthood, his passion for serving others was evident during his time as a 1st Lieutenant Pilot in the U.S. Army during WWII. He flew a B-17 in 39 missions, including the Battle of Normandy. Following the war, he married his sweetheart, Ruth, and began a 40-year career as an airplane mechanic at Northwest Airlines. Bob and Ruth had been married for 55 years when Ruth passed away in 2003.

Bob was a man of many hobbies and interests, including golfing, hunting, fishing, cheering on the Twins and Vikings, and taking trips to the casino. He enjoyed traveling to warm places, such as Florida and Hawaii, to escape Minnesota winters. He took great pride in tending his apple trees and vegetable gardens and was always glad to share with others the "fruits" of his labor—literally! Making elderberry wine and canning pickles were two other hobbies from which his family members greatly benefited! He was also a Suduko whiz and found joy in watching the birds and rabbits in his backyard gardens.

Above all, Bob was a supportive and loving Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa (AKA "Papa Bear"). Bob will always be remembered for his keen sense of humor, sharp wit, and gentle demeanor. He left this world a better place for all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Preceded in death by wife, Ruthann; son-in-law, Rocco Lovering, and grandson, Lee Lovering. Survived by son, Bob (Karen) Linc; daughter, Peggy Lovering; grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Conlin, Bobby (Vicky & children Bryce, Dustin, and Ashley) Linc, and Briana (Ross) Benson; and great-grandchildren, Korbin and Kyler Benson. A private family interment took place on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Ft. Snelling Nat'l Cemetery. Memorials preferred.
