Michael J. Heitzig, born January 4, 1971, in Grand Rapids, MN and raised in Inver Grove Heights, left this plane of existence unexpectedly on January 2, 2024.  He left behind the love of his life, his wife of 26 years, Barb (Morton) Heitzig.    He was a generous and creative soul who looked at life with a dark humor and loved when he could make those around him laugh.  That being said, an obituary earnestly doling out what a wonderful human being he was would have made him cringe.   So, friends are invited to a visitation to come together and share favorite stories, celebrate with a laugh and horrendously bad puns, dark humor welcome, because it would have been what he wanted.

Mike is survived by his wife Barb, adoptive father Joseph Heitzig, birth father Dennis Cowan; sisters Jodie (Heitzig) Scott and Tammy (Rasche) Halberg; brothers David and Daren Cowan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his adoptive mother Theresa (Marxer) Heitzig, birth mother Jonell Rasche, and an entire zoo of former pets, most especially Yeti, who also left unexpectedly a few months before him.

Visitation is at The Johnson Peterson Funeral home, 612 Smith Ave S in St Paul on Saturday, November 2 at 10-12:30. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery to follow afterwards.
