Marlys O
Mariner
Nov 9, 1923 — Apr 9, 2023
Marlys Orlene (Carlson) Mariner 99, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 9th.
Marlys was born November 9th, 1923 to Anton and Corrine Carlson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Edison High School and after attending secretarial school she was recruited to work for the FBI in Washington DC. She spent a few years on the east coast and then returned to Minnesota where she married the love of her life, Henry Mariner.
Marlys had one daughter, RaeAnn, but also gained two stepsons, Willard (Bill) Raymond Stromberg (dec) and Jan Patrick Stromberg (dec) with her marriage to Henry.
Marlys spent many years living in Northeast Minneapolis working as an accountant/bookkeeper for The Day Company. When she retired from Carter-Day company she and Henry moved onto Little Trout Lake in Emily, MN. Here she became the sole teller of the Pine River State Bank. Bill and his family lived next door and she often had grandchildren visit; she loved being surrounded by family. Marlys loved living up north and enjoyed the beauty of the lake and of course, the loons.
As Henry became ill, Marlys spent more time in the cities and eventually moved back to be closer to friends and family when he passed. Here she worked at JC Penny well into her 80's while also volunteering at the Minnesota Zoo for over a decade. She loved working in the zoo lab and introducing the children to the various animals and creepy crawlers.
Marlys loved to travel and share her adventures with anyone who would listen😉
She loved her family and friends and made it a point to stay close with them. Her 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and more than two dozen nieces and nephews adored her.
We will miss her exuberance for life, her sense of humor, her adventures, her lefse, and most of all, her love.
