Age 87
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and Brother
Lawrence
was called to his eternal resting place on July 23, 2016, just one week shy of his 88th birthday. He entered this world on July 30, 1928 in St. Paul, MN, born to Anthony and Mary Popowitz. He was raised on the East Side of St. Paul with his three brothers, Harry, Gene
,
Jim and one sister, Lorraine. On June 26, 1954 he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Esaacson. Four children, one daughter, Sandy, and three sons, Steven, Mark and Dan, were born by 1959.
Lawrence worked as a lithographer for various printing companies throughout his life. He found his true artistry in his last years painting with his wife, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Lawrence proudly served in the military and will be buried with full military honors.
Lawrence lived his entire life for his family, his wife and children always came first, his grandchildren adored him and he gently treasured his great-grandchildren. Lawrence's wry sense of humor made every conversation a joyful one. He was very proud of his Polish heritage so he started and maintained many family traditions - he spent most Easter eves preparing paczkis for the next day and every member of his family knows his love of a good ham dinner.
Lawrence died peacefully in the comfort of his home and family. He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Sandy (Larry) Tobias, sons and daughters-in law, Steven (Coral), Mark (Gloria) and Dan Popowitz, his sister Lorraine Hammerly, his twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary, his father Anthony, three brothers, Harry, Gene, Jim and his niece Mary Hammerly. We imagine them 'dealing him in' to their heavenly card game.
