St. Paul

Obituary

June H. Swedberg of Saint Paul passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025. June was born June 18, 1927, in New London, CT, the daughter of Wells and Elsa (Hanson) Hale.  She graduated from Fitch High School in Groton, Connecticut. June married Dudley Swedberg on August 19, 1950. They lived in Connecticut while Dudley was in the Coast Guard and moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1952, and then to Cicero, IL but returned to Minneapolis, MN after a few years. Later they welcomed their son, Richard. Shortly after, they moved to Alexandria, VA, and then to Chippewa Falls, WI. They then moved to Bloomington, MN, where they lived until they "retired".

She graduated from the University of Minnesota and taught elementary school in Deephaven, MN and Chippewa Falls, WI.  After staying home raising Rich, she accepted civil service positions with the U.S. Army and the CIA (she never did tell us what she did!) and retired in 1988 after 20 years' service. She and Dudley moved to San Jose, CA to start new jobs before returning to Minnesota for good in 1997.

June enjoyed reading, arranging cut flowers, storytelling, buying lottery tickets, and being a doting grandmother to Elsie and Alma. "Farmor" will be remembered for after-school snacks of crackers, Swedish Fish, and a juice box, and for many "day trips" to Paris.

For the last 15 years, she suffered from Alzheimer's Disease, spending most of the past few years in memory care at the Willows on Ramsey Hill where she received loving care until her death.  Rest in peace dear little Junie!

June is survived by her beloved husband, Dudley; son, Richard (Kari) Swedberg; granddaughters, Elsie and Alma Swedberg; co-grandparent, Susan Klingman; and many nieces and nephews.

June  is predeceased in death by her parents, Wells and Elsa Hale; twin siblings, David Hale and Barbara Hale; sisters Ruth (Hale) Giddings, Pauline (Hale) Peckham, Betty (Hale) King, and Marjorie (Hale) Hall; and brothers, Robert V. Hale,  Richard Hale, Allen "Charlie" Hale, Lawrence F. Hale, and Gary Hale; brother-in-law, Judson Swedberg; sister-in-law, Jeri (Swedberg) Busse; and co-grandparent Donald Klingman.

June will be laid to rest at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Neighborhood House (https://neighborhoodhousemn.org/).
