Ida was born in Brown City, MI on December 10, 1913 to Annie Paton Swain and Clyde Wilbur Swain. She spent her early years in Almont and Detroit, MI, graduating from Highland Park Community College. She worked for McCann Erickson Advertising Company until she met and married Gordon Hollingsworth, a 3M chemical engineer, in 1940. They raised their children in Ferndale and Pleasant Ridge, MI, until 1960 when Gordon was transferred by 3M to St. Paul, MN. They moved to White Bear Lake and joined the First Presbyterian Church where they were active together for 45 years. A life-long learner, Ida was a 50-year member of the League of Women Voters, a great reader and a world traveler including trips to Europe, Japan and 16 visits to Alaska. She liked games: she and Gordon played bridge for many years and, until recently, she always beat her family at UPWORDS. The family is grateful for the compassionate care Ida received from the staffs at St. Andrew's Assisted Living, BrightStar Care of St. Croix Valley, Health Partners Geriatrics, Health Partners Hospice and Entira Family Clinics. Visit with the family and friends at the First Presbyterian Church of White Bear Lake (corner of 5th and Bloom) starting at 9:30am on Saturday, May 23; a memorial celebration service will follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of White Bear Lake Foundation, 4821 Bloom Ave., White Bear Lake, MN 55110.
