Retired Captain
Station 23
Everyone knew him. He was seemingly everywhere, whether diving under the ice to recover cars with or without their occupants, parachuting from an airplane ("It paid a lot more!"), or showing up after a 24 hour shift at the St. Paul Fire Dept. Station 23 to hold his little grandson. With seemingly boundless energy, a brilliant mind and eternal optimism he bought and sold real estate, built houses and machines with futuristic materials and methods, anticipated trends by decades, and brightened the lives of countless people.
With his passing, the coffee companies are taking a major hit on their bottom line. Indeed he was always concerned about that bottom line, always looking for a deal. Not the clipping coupons type, rather the kind where you fly somewhere for a vacation but spend most of the time looking for underpriced land, then fly somewhere else and buy a convertible to drive 1500 miles back home and tinker with for a few months.
Harry passed away on Feb. 23. Beloved father and grandfather. Preceded by his parents, August and Pearl; brothers Elton and Alger and sister Claribel; former wife Ria; daughter Eva, son Mark.
