Obituary

Age 69 died December 27, 2019, of Vadnais Heights. Preceded in death by parents Lewis and Violet Freshwater, brothers Scott, Lane and 2 infants, Sister in Law Joan Freshwater.  Beloved husband of Mary Jo; father of Melissa (Chris) Irwin, Kyleen (Steve) Bedell, Steven (Hattie Larson) Freshwater, Nick Wiersgalla, Brent (Nicole) Freshwater, Daniel (Paige Schiermiester) Freshwater and David Freshwater; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; brother of Greg Freshwater, Marc Freshwater (Shelly) and Terry (Joanne) Freshwater, Sisters in Law Michele and Margaret Freshwater; A very large extended family and many, many friends.

Glenn made his grand entrance into the world on June 26th 1950. He was the 3rd of 6 rambunctious boys, to put it nicely. Anyone who grew up in the neighborhood remembers "The Freshwater boys" and their mischievous nature. The stories about the boys are plentiful including going to visit the science museum to look at the dinosaur bones. Afterwards they would visit the local corner store to purchase their own little plastic dinosaurs. When they got home their dinosaurs would "fight" and Glenn insisted that his dinosaurs would eat all the others. This begins the competition between the boys of who was the strongest, smartest and quickest, which would carry throughout life.

He joined the Navy in 1968. He was stationed at Naval Station Treasure Island, in the San Francisco Bay. He loved his time in the Navy but was one of the few sailors who never made it out to sea. After he left the service, he took pride in working for Tasty Bakery and Avis Budget.

He developed a great love of automobiles from a very young age. He loved going to Porkey's on Saturday nights to watch the cars drag race and do burnouts down University Ave, and even participated on occasion. He never missed a Back to the 50's and visited the Friday night car shows in North St Paul as often as he could.

Glenn became a father to three rambunctious boys of his own (payback perhaps from the gray hair he gave his own parents) whom he loved very much.

He met his soulmate Mary in his late 30's and together they had another son. His relationship with his beloved wife was unique and very special, to the point of embarrassment of his kids. Together they had a blended family of 7 spirited children who kept them on their toes.He took great pride in teaching all of the children how to drive and how to play board games with serious intensity and not so friendly competition. Camping trips and old Western Romance movies were his way of unwinding from all of the adventures a large family provides.

Grandchildren came and he took the role of being a grandfather very seriously. He wanted to make sure that he would be the first one to spoil them with ice cream and Pepsi.

Glenn had a heart attack in 2017, which created multiple new health problems that he and Mary would have to take on with courage over the next couple years.  He fought through so much and showed everyone what true strength was. Even in his final days he was proud that he "one upped Terry" after making it through a complicated procedure. He was strong willed, brave and above all, Glenn loved his family and life. He was a friend to many and made new friends wherever he went, even while sitting at a stop light.

In true Glenn fashion we ask that you come dressed comfortably, or in his favorite article of clothing, a flannel.
