Guy William (Bill) Hopkins, 85 years old, passed away June 28, 2022 in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was born in Englin, North Dakota and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Eunice (Wagenknecht). His legacy includes 2 children, David (Jennifer Swan), and Robert, who preceded him in death. He also leaves loving nieces and a nephew.
Bill excelled at many things, and in his life he had many interests. As a young man, he served in both the National Guard and the Navel Reserves. His teaching career spanned decades, as well as various subjects from computer science to math, and even included coaching basketball. He retired after a long career at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
In the early years, during the summers (as he was a teacher), Bill could always be counted on to be out in the yard playing wiffleball and football with his kids, nieces, nephews and any neighbor kids who were around. He'd work on their dirt bikes, teach them how to do things like clean fish, or build something, and was always involved. Bill loved golfing, pontooning at the lake house, classic cars, and gun collecting. He built houses and liked all things railroad - including collecting models. He enjoyed teasing waitresses about serving strawberry shortcake. He had a great smile, loved laughing, and passing on a good joke. But getting together with his friends of either the 4 o'clock club at the tiki and club in Florida, or at the lake in Minnesota, had to be his favorite thing to do. He really enjoyed people.
Bill will be greatly missed by all that loved or were touched by him. For those of us who are still here, "It ain't easy", Bill. But we know you are with Bobby and surrounded by your family, at peace and with the Lord.
There will be a service July 28th at St James Lutheran Church (460 Annapolis St., W. St. Paul). Visitation is 10:00 to 11:00. There will be an 11:00 service, followed by a light lunch. Interment with immediate family follows. The family asks for donations to St. Jude in lieu of flowers.
