Betsy was born in Martinsville, Indiana, to Sherman and Alberta Hacker on June 22, 1933. She was the oldest of ten children and was very proud of all of her siblings, her rural upbringing, and her hometown of Belle Union, Indiana. She married Donald K. "Andy" Anderson on July 14, 1956, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She and Andy had four children. Betsy was a homemaker and daycare provider, and she also worked for several years at Sperry Univac. But her true love was volunteering with her children's school programs, particularly the band and choir program. She and Andy chaperoned many band and choir trips over the years, making lifelong memories for themselves and the students they chaperoned. Betsy loved to knit and crochet. She nearly always had a ball of yarn and needles in her hands when she wasn't visiting over coffee, baking a pie, or whipping up Swedish meatballs for an army of family and friends.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andy, her daughter Mollie Peterson, her brother T.J. Hacker, her sister Sarah Hacker, and her sister-in-law Gypsy Hacker.

Betsy is survived by her sons: Sherman (Mary) Anderson, Thurston (Kathy) Anderson, and Jason (Julie) Anderson; her son-in-law: Jamie Peterson; her grandchildren: Katie (Tim) Tonjum, Kevin (Kelly) DeGezelle, Alex (Alicia) DeGezelle, Zach (Kayla) Anderson, Katie Anderson, Ellie Anderson, and Tim Anderson; her great-grandchildren: Nick Tonjum, Grant Tonjum, Lawson DeGezelle, Paisley DeGezelle, Lilia DeGezelle, Harper Geer, Hazel DeGezelle, Indy DeGezelle, and Easton Anderson; her brothers and sisters: Jim (Judy) Hacker, Myron "Butch" Hacker, Sherman (Juanita) Hacker, Linda (Virgil) Nicoson, Bob (Kathy) Hacker, Elly (Larry) Linneman, and Carolyn (Kenny) Dean; her sister-in-law: Alice Hacker; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
